The sunlight comes early in Southeast Alaska! Wake up under a canopy of old growth cedar, spruce, and hemlock trees.
Enjoy a breakfast cooked over the fire! Your guides will make breakfast; ifyou enjoy cooking or want to learn more about cooking outside, we will teach you!
We are always paying attention to the tides here! We will work together to load and pack our boats for the day, while keeping an eye on the rising or falling water.
Most of our paddling trips take place on the ocean, on the "inner channels" of Southeast Alaska. Some trips will paddle the Stikine River.
We paddle anywhere from 6 - 15 miles each day, depending on tides, weather, and the group; usually around 5-7 hours each day.
Halfway through the day's paddle, we stop, take a break, and make a fulfilling lunch.
This is a great time to swim if you are hot, rest in the forest, set a crab-pot, or gather firewood! There is always something to do to keep the expedition moving!
In the afternoon we will arrive at our chosen camp for the day. While the sites are selected in advance, most are very wild and have no amenities.
We unload boats, set up tarps for sleeping, gather water and firewood, and enjoy some time freely exploring the beach or the woods.
There are learning opportunities all around us here!
Your guides will have a lesson and/or hands-on activity each day related to the surrounding environment. Lessons depend on location, but may include:
Another opportunity to learn backcountry cooking skills over a fire, with support from your guides.
We will try and catch fish and crab when we can, and will incorporate those local foods when possible.
We can cater to any dietary restrictions or allergies!
As the evening winds down, we like to include an opportunity for communal reflection and conversation.
There is nothing like chatting with friends, listening to music, and drinking tea around the fire before crawling into your warm sleeping bag after a long day of paddling!
Reach out so we can start a conversation about how to share this typical magic!
