Adolescent Programs

Adolescent programs immerse students in nature, help them build self-confidence and consideration for others, and ultimately support a younger generation of environmentally conscious and confident individuals

How it works

Travel from Home to Wrangell, Alaska

Fly from home to Wrangell, Alaska- serviced multiple times daily by Alaska Airlines.

Your guides will pick you up at the airport, and shuttle you to your lodging.

Prepare for your Adventure

After you arrive, we will spend the night in Wrangell preparing for the expedition.

You will be outfitted with any items and clothes you were unable to bring with you from home.

10 Days in the Wild

We are transported by jet-boat from Wrangell to one of our backcountry base-camps for our first night.

You will learn paddling skills to help prepare you for the upcoming expedition, and get used to using all your camp equipment.

After we leave our base-camp, you will spend the rest of the trip paddling and exploring Southeast Alaska.

Return Home

On our last day, we are picked up by the jet-boat, and transported back to Wrangell.

Catch a flight home that evening, or spend the night in Wrangell and travel home the following day.

FAQs

Hi there! Have some questions about our Adolescent Program? Find the answers below.

  • When will your adolescent programs run?

We will be running our first programs in 2024. Enrollment will open in the winter of 2023!

  • Why would this program be beneficial to adolescants?

Fathom's founding team is highly familiar with the healing power of nature immersion for all people, especially adolescents.

We have observed a continued and even increased need for outdoor recreation in the years after the pandemic for individuals aged 12-18. Our observations are supported by an increasing number of studies, such as “Outdoor Activity Participation Improves Adolescents’ Mental Health and Well-Being during the Covid-19 pandemic,”  that can measure the tangible and significant benefits of adolescents spending time in nature.

Published results “highlight the critical role that time outdoors and time in nature play in bolstering adolescents' resilience to stressors such as the COVID-19 pandemic and underscore the need to facilitate outdoor recreation opportunities for youth."
